Dato' N. Sadasivan commenced working with the Singapore Economic Development Board in 1963, and was Head of the Industrial Facilities Division when he left to join Malaysian Investment Development Authority (previously known as Malaysian Industrial Development Authority) ("MIDA") in 1968. He was with MIDA for a total of 27 years and became its Director-General in 1984. He retired from MIDA in 1995.

Dato' N. Sadasivan was formerly a Director of Bank Negara Malaysia.
